Virtual Schools Awards

This week was Tameside's very first Virtual School Awards night at Clarendon Sixth Form College.

The night celebrated the amazing accomplishments of children and young people, along with the support of Designated Teachers, Social Workers and Carers. There were three award winners from Samuel Laycock. Two pupils whose SEND achievements were recognised and celebrated and our Designated Teacher.

Here's what the Virtual School had to say...

"Bruce showed outstanding resilience and effort in his final year at Samuel Laycock school. Bruce overcame a heart-breaking bereavement when his foster dad sadly passed away. Bruce showed determination to achieve.

Bruce also showed great commitment to his weekly trombone lessons in school over the course of 3 years with Tameside Music Service. Bruce went on to be involved in a brass band outside of school hours. We are all so proud of his achievements!"

"Jonathon showed true grit and determination in the face of his complex medical condition and daily challenges. Jonathon did not let this stop him from achieving:

Maths – Functional Skills Entry level 1

English – Functional Skills Entry level 2

ASDAN – Personal Development Programme – Silver

PE Entry Level – Pass

Sports Leader level 1&2

Duke of Edinburgh – Silver

Paddle Sports level 1 Award

Access Sport Coach Clever Young Leaders Course

NICAS Climbing Award

Whilst at Samuel Laycock, Jonathon was a popular young man with an incredible sense of humour who always tried his best. He is an incredibly resilient young person and all staff at Samuel Laycock are so proud of him and all that he has achieved."

Our very own Kate Cash was also presented with an award for Designated Teacher and the comments below were put forward by the Education Welfare Officer for Virtual School:

"Katie Cash has a real knowledge, understanding and great working relationship with all of her students. I attended a PEP meeting this week at Samuel Laycock and the student’s Grandma was full of praise to her and stated that she couldn't have got through last year if it wasn't for her support. She deserves an award!"

We are very proud of Kate and her exceptional team at Samuel Laycock School.  She always holds the voice of the child central to everything that she does and the children and staff at Samuel Laycock are lucky to have her.

Congratulations to all of our worthy winners.
